Ordinary Tips For Extra-ordinary Changes In Job Search

I went through so many Blogs, Article and websites for searching job, how to build your resume but most of them sounds very bookish to me when suggesting tips for job search and resume modifications (Sorry to say I cant read lectures any more, need something really new and different).

Here are few points to follow or avoid when searching for job on any level.

Check your Resume

1. Mention the information about you in the profile in a different section which a company or consultant will like to see in your resume like

(a)Willing to relocate/Travel or your preferred location

(b)Open for shifts

(c)Your Current salary, Expected Salary

(d)Time required to join

(e)Your Passport number, Valid upto (if you have)

You can mention these points just below your name and contact details.

2. There is no need to explain about your family background if not necessary for the nature of the job

3. Always mention you Achievements, Key Responsibility Area in the previous companies but be sure it should be point to point not very lengthy.

4. Try to mention Numerical Figures if you can provide like if I talk about a financial consultant or an accountant they can give an idea how many crore transaction they have handled per week or month or yearly, as a job consultant we can mention in terms of revenue.

5.You can make different resumes for different jobs as per the company needs.

Help from the Job Portals in a Different Way

Job portals are not only for posting your profile and searching for jobs, use them in a new way now, How …..simple!

Just give a random search for the profile you are looking for irrespective of the location, company, salary and many other factors, go through the job postings and read them carefully

(a)What exactly Company is seeking for

(b)what are the points company has mentioned in their Responsibility Areas, Desired and Essentials in candidate profile

(c)Make a note of all those points you come across by copy-paste on the word document

(d)Modify those points or you can use the same in your resume which ever are applicable on you

Please don’t tell Naukri, Times and Monster they will ban my access to their database and also companies will not take my cv seriously (Yeah, Nice Joke )

2. I have seen so many persons mentioning their soft skills like hard working, good learner etc in the Head lines or Key skills

Always mention the skills on which you are working like Java, Oracle, or Recruitment, Training, or Business Development

3. Your headline should say what you are and exactly what you are looking for –

(a)“MBA, Sales Executive 2+yrs exp in Furniture Sales and Marketing, Looking for Sales Manager, No preferred location” from this line consultant will understand the complete profile and your preferences.

(b)Always keep this in your mind job consultants or company HR executives are more interested in reading such cv which are very clear in their points and less time consuming

4. Don’t apply in random to all openings in your field, read the job posting and the contents well, apply only if applicable on you, Hey! An idea again search random as you did for the 1st point to mention KRA and Achievements from the portals, now do it for searching a consultant, How….. again simple as earlier (hmmm….was it !!)

(a)Search with your related key words, no location (if you are not location specific), no salary and other factors you will find many job postings, read them only (never apply if not applicable as said above)

(b)Take out phone numbers, their email ids, you can check their websites if the id and number are not given, send your resume to them.

Applying for a Job – Make Sure

Mention the post you are applying for in the subject line or any ref id if given, write the details as we did in the headlines on the portal, takes some more time but there is a big profit in it…….!

If any opening (as per your profile) come across to the consultant they will take your cv out from their database easily then those who have just mailed with no skills or designation applied for in the subject line

Like – 3+rs IT training exp, Domestic/International, Corporate/Institutional, open for shifts, relocation and traveling, Java, Cognos, C++ , web sphere

(b)Always send your resume to the mentioned email id other then applying through the portals

(c)Always make a call to the consultant after 1-2 hr of sending your profile to check it has been received or not, also it leaves your name in the consultant’s mind

I have noticed more then 75% candidates avoid these two above points which are really helpful to get a job.

For Senior Profiles also we can use this above mentioned mantra to call consultants who have posted jobs for the higher profiles on the portals may be not applicable on you, but it given an idea that this consultancy deals with senior profiles as well.

Try this for now, in my next topic I m going to give few more tips as well as 100s of email id of the consultants all over India I collected, but please promise me……… that before sending your profile to those email id check their company website to know are they dealing with your sector or not, don’t misuse those email ids, as in such case you will create problem for yourself as well as for others.
