Be Strong

Hi,

i receive many calls to say they are depress not getting job, or calls from the companies
to cope from all these feeling read.

Have you ever felt your emotions spinning downward
to the point of anxiety or dread? I have. I would like
to think that this "Queen of Peak Performance" is never
tempted by her own fears or anxieties. The good news
is that I can usually climb out of despair pretty quickly.

So can you.

One secret to performing at your peak when the pressure
is on is this:

ASK BETTER QUESTIONS!

Often the anxiety comes without any real words to it,
but there are underlying questions which are putting
you into a state of chaos.

It has been said, "If you want better answers, than ask better questions!"

These are the wrong questions to ask yourself - especially while
in a tense state of mind:

"What is wrong with me?"

"Why can't I get this right?"

"What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do? What am I gonna do?"

Instead, try this:

1. BACK UP! Take a moment to get calm. In fact, ideally
you want to "program yourself" to do this automatically in
response to stress.

2. Take a few calming breaths, and focus on this present
moment.

3. Focus on your ultimate ideal outcome. What is it that
would be the very best outcome for everyone involved?

4. Clarify a question that opens your eyes to see new
possibilities towards that end. i.e. "How MIGHT I create the most success in this situation while creating the least stress?

5. Expect an answer to arrive in time.

"But I HAVE NO TIME!!" you may be thinking. Then create the habit of expecting answers that were coming your way ahead of time. A revelation can come in a nano-second.

I know the fact that you can formulate a question means that the answer exists. The fact that you have a pure desire also means that there is a way to see if fulfilled. There is a long
list of reasons for this from the realm of quantum mechanics, but for now, I recommend just being open to possibilities.

On the "spiritual" side...

We all knows in Ramayana "Sri Hanuman" when recollected his powers was able to take Sri Ram out of that critical situation.

Whatever you need has already been provided by the GREAT ONE, who knew you would need it. Your job is to quiet your flesh and ask the right question, so you can see the answer.

Let me know what question you have come up with. I have some questions of my own, and will be delighted
to discover some answers too.

Be energize again, if you have faith in yourself, you will get a good job or can be out of any bad situation you are in

Keep playing to win - and ENJOY YOUR GAME!

6 Sloppy Speech Habits

You may look good on paper or in your suit, but if you’re looking to nail your big interview, looks aren’t everything. How you sound is often more important. But many job seekers let careless speech habits sink their chances of landing that plum job.

Here are six common language mistakes and how to keep them from sabotaging your interview:

1. Non-words

Filler words such as “um,” “ah,” “you know,” “OK” or “like” tell the interviewer you’re not prepared and make you sound like a Valley Girl (or Boy). A better strategy is to think before you speak, taking pauses and breaths when you lose your train of thought. Everybody utters an occasional “um,” but don’t let it start every sentence.

2. “Up-Talk”

A singsong or rising inflection at the end of every sentence creates a tentative impression and makes it sound as though you’re asking a question instead of making a definitive statement. You need to speak with conviction when selling yourself in an interview. Bring your intonation down when ending a sentence to avoid talking up.

3. Grammatical Errors

The interviewer may question your education when you use incorrect grammar or slang. Expressions such as “ain’t” “she don’t,” “me and my friend” and “so I goes to him” aren’t appropriate. Be sure you speak in complete sentences and that tenses agree. The interview is not the venue for regional expressions or informality.

4. Sloppy Speech

Slurring words together or dropping their endings impairs the clarity of your message. To avoid slurring and increase understanding, speak slowly during an interview. Make a list of commonly mispronounced words, and practice saying them into a tape recorder before the interview. Some common incorrect pronunciations include “aks” for “ask,” “ath a lete” for “athlete,” “wif” for “with” and “dree” for “three.”

5. Speed Talking

While everybody is a bit anxious during an interview, you don’t want your information to fly by like a speeding bullet. A rapid speaking rate is difficult to follow, and speed talkers are seen as nervous. Slow down your racing heart by doing some breathing exercises before the interview. To avoid rushing, listen to the question, and then count two beats in your head before answering. When you finish a sentence, count two beats again before continuing. Don’t be afraid of silence. Pausing is an effective communication technique. The interviewer needs a few seconds to process what you just said anyway.

6. Weak Speak

Wimpy words modify or water down your conviction and in the end your position. When you pepper a conversation with “hopefully,” “perhaps,” “I feel,” “kind of” and “sort of,” the message you convey is a lack of confidence. Use power words such as “I’m confident that,” “my track record shows,” “I take the position that,” “I recommend” or “my goal is.” The language you use gives the listener an impression about your level of confidence and conviction.

The Bottom Line

You don’t have to study elocution to speak well. Simply slow down, take time to pronounce all the syllables, and leave slang at home.

Companies want job candidates who are well-spoken and articulate, and recruiters won’t represent a job candidate if they don’t match the client’s profile. According to Lori Zelman, vice president of human resources at Strategic Workforce Solutions in New York City, “The people most highly sought after are the ones who are succinct in the explanation of their work experience.”

10 interview questions/Tips after a gap in your career or Older Job-Hunters

These 10 questions are examples of some you might be asked. Not all of them are overtly age-related. But each one gives you an opportunity to present yourself as a skilled, energetic worker who brings high value to an employer.

Tell me about yourself.

Make your answer short and sweet. Stick to experiences and goals that relate to the specific job for which you’re applying. Resist the impulse to stress your years of experience. It’s more important to talk about your skills and achievements that show you can deliver. Emphasize your flexibility and positive attitude.

Why are you looking for a job?

Keep it brief. A straightforward answer is best. For example, “My organization was forced to downsize.” Avoid negative statements about yourself, your work, or your ability to get along with others. Nevercriticize former employers or coworkers.

You haven’t worked for a long time.

Why not? You may have gaps in employment for many reasons. Be honest. Speak confidently about your experiences during the gaps. Some could transfer to on-the-job skills. For instance, if you were a caregiver, you managed complex financial issues. As a volunteer, you might have worked with diverse groups and on flexible schedules.

What are you looking for?

It takes a lot of thinking to be ready for this question. Don’t speak in generalities. Be prepared to name the type of position you think would be appropriate for you and how your skills would translate to a new employer.

Aren’t you overqualified for this position?

Even though “overqualified” can be shorthand for “old” or “expensive,” it’s important to stay positive. Express your enthusiasm for the job and pride in your qualifications. Explain what makes you interested in this position at this point in your career—such as wanting to apply your skills to a new field or to achieve more flexibility and work-life balance.

We have state-of-the-art technology. Would you be able to jump right in?

Show you are adaptable and tech-savvy. Give examples of projects you’ve done which required computer skills and familiarity with electronic media. Emphasize training you’ve taken to keep your skills up to date.

We don’t have many employees who are your age. Would that bother you?

Explain that you believe your age would be an asset, you are eager to learn, and it doesn’t matter who helps you. Describe recent experiences, whether at work or in other situations, where age diversity has been an asset. Though it’s not illegal to be asked your age, the question could be a red flag about the employer’s commitment to age diversity. Know your rights under the Age Discrimination in Employment Act.

What’s your biggest weakness?

This is a reverse invitation to toot your own horn. Do it with an answer that puts you in a good light. For example, “I’m too detail-oriented, but I work hard to control that.” Keep it simple—and smile.

What are your salary requirements?

Try to postpone this question until a job offer has been made. Prepare by knowing the going rate in your area (sites like Salary.com can help). If you don’t know the range and the interviewer persists, reply, “What salary range are you working with?” The interviewer may very well tell you.

Do you have any questions?

Show your interest and initiative by asking specific questions about the organization and what you can expect in the job. Use your questions to demonstrate how your skills can contribute to the organization. Answering “no” to this question says you’re not really interested in the job.

There was a time when age discrimination conjured visual images of men and women nearing the retirement age of 62 and older. However, with the increasing impact of technology, the changing workplace, globalization and economic instability, age discrimination has crept into the lives of working professionals as young as 40.

So if you are over 40 and have been unexpectedly thrust into unemployment, how can you find career success? Overcoming the barriers of age discrimination takes persistence, dedication, a positive attitude and employing a few proven strategies for your job search.

Strategy #1: Unearth Your Personal Brand

If you have not conducted a job search in over ten or fifteen years, you will find yourself entangled in an intense competition for today's top positions. Add your age factor to the equation and you will need to find ways to differentiate yourself from other jobseekers and show employers why you are worth more.

One of the best places to get started is with personal branding. Through deep self-evaluation and external feedback, you will identify your unique strengths, personal attributes and the authentic value you offer to potential employers. Here are five questions to get you thinking about your value proposition:

What aspects of your work and life do you enjoy the most?

What is your area of expertise and/or specialty skill?

What do you have in your background, education or experience that differentiates you from your peers?

How do you want to be perceived?

Ask peers, colleagues and managers how they perceive you and what strengths they see in you.

Strategy #2: Develop an "Age Friendly" Resume

Your resume plays a vital role in your job search and is one of the primary tools that potential employers will use to evaluate your qualifications. While you need to emphasize the breadth of your experience, you want to avoid including information that "ages" you. Here are a few techniques that will help you "de-age" your executive resume.

Encapsulate your early experience or positions in a summary paragraph without dates

Remove the dates from the Education section

Restrict the number of years experience in your profile summary to "15-plus" or "15+".

Bring older achievements to the first page of your resume under a section called "Career Milestones" or "Career Achievements" Include volunteer, community outreach and extracurricular activities to subtly diminish concerns about your vitality and energy level.

Highlight computer and technical training to demonstrate that you are current with the latest technology.

Strategy #3: Practice Well for Interviews

No matter your age, practice, practice, practice! To prepare, you might want to do the following.

Conduct extensive research on the company through the Internet and if possible, "Google" the names of the person(s) who will be interviewing you. Learn as much about current industry trends and other events that impact the company.

Prepare for the big day through mock interviews and practice questions. Develop success stories around your career accomplishments and refer to them during your interview.

Strategy #4: Upgrade Your Look

Your professional attire and physical appearance will make an impression with your interviewer as much as your resume. Do everything on your part to put your best foot forward. Seek advice from family; friends;c and an image consultant (if necessary) to ensure that your business suit, hairstyle and accessories really compliment you.

Strategy #5: Enroll in Support Networks

Besides traditional networking events, there are several organizations that provide emotional assistance and support for professionals over 40 who are seeking new employment.

If you are over qualified for the job.......!!

Hi,

Daily i receive many calls from very senior persons or resumes against lesser experienced job mass mailing. I feel bit hesitate to send their profiles to the client may be becaz of the details in their resume or their long descriptions on phone.

Typically Recruiters will not use the words "over-qualified" to an applicant. But we know it happens and we know that even when the words are never uttered, it's often the thought of the screener.

I thought to share few thought with you, please suggest if you have any other better idea.

Right or wrong, assumptions hiring managers might have about hiring overqualified candidates include:

· Youll be bored and unmotivated

· The salary will be too low for you

· Youll be unhappy

· Youll leave the minute something better comes along

· You could possibly steal his/her job

· You wont be able to step down from a leadership role

Hiring managers take overqualified candidates seriously only if they are convincing about a valid reason they want to take a more junior-level job,

If youre being told youre overqualified during your job search, here are seven ways to convince your interviewer otherwise:

1. Admit that youre worried, too

Tell the hiring manager that you are also concerned that it might not be a fit, Promise that if at any point during the hiring process you think the job appears too low or not one where you will bring the full engagement needed to excel in the position, you will withdraw your candidacy. Your willingness to walk away tells them you are motivated if you stay in the game.

2. Take salary off the table

Make it clear that youre flexible about salary and that your previous earnings are not relevant to your current job search.

Tell the hiring manager that you work for both green dollars and personal satisfaction dollars, Lately youve had a deficit in personal satisfaction dollars and you want a chance to try something new.

3. Put the issue out there

Ask the interviewer if he or she sees any positives or negatives to your candidacy based on your higher qualifications. Get the issue on the table so it can be addressed.

4. Use your accomplishments

Tell the hiring manager that youre proud of your accomplishments and you have proven to yourself that you can perform at a more senior level, Now youre not interested in chasing titles and promotions. You want to make a contribution at a compelling company.

5. Distance yourself from your higher qualifications

Be empathetic to those parts of the hiring managers job indicate that you have a clearer understanding of what a manager needs from his people.

For example, say you were a manager and are applying to an individual contributor job. Tell the hiring manager that you are looking for a job that would give you more hands-on technical work and give you a break from the people management and corporate politics.

6. You want to learn

If youve held more senior positions at a different kind of company or in a different industry, tell the hiring manager that the best way to really learn about a new industry is from the bottom up.

7. Make a commitment

Tell the employer that you know that job hopping is a major dont in the business world. Say that barring unforeseen circumstances, you are ready to make at least a two-year commitment to the company.

You can use the words "feel, felt & found". You may not use all of them, but they're nice to have in your quiver. ie.

I can see how you might feel I am overquaified. I know others sometimes have felt that way, initially, in the past. However, you will find (as did my co-workers), that I can make an immediate contribution to your firm and look forward to the opportunity to learn more about the position.

Other then this, i will like to mention if you are not able to impress the consultants with your words and resume it is bit difficult to get an interview as they will not forward your profile, continued to my earlier post i will again say

Don't make a over list of your experiences

Don't make a very senior impression on the consultant and in your resume

Don't ask consultant to fit you wherever your profile matches, mention in your mail or profile clearly what exactly you are looking for.

Sometimes softening your resume can help.

Youve probably heard that youre supposed to tweak your resume for each and every position you are applying for, right? Well a lower level position is no different.

Focus your resume only on the skills that are used in the job youre applying for. If its an individual contributor position, you dont need to list all of your management and leadership experience and skills on your resume, since its probably irrelevant.

You may want to tone down job titles as well, since they are somewhat flexible. Create the best image of yourself as a fit for the job.

if you are applying for some companies (probably most) only verifying salary, dates of employment and title, having any variance between what was and what you state on your resume could bring you trouble. Why risk it. Use the title you held.

Instead you must use your cover letter well when you are applying for a job that is less than your full skillset. This is when you explain that you are in a position to take a step back...and not make it sound as if you are desperate. This is where your writing skills come in, and if you need assistance, consult a professional resume-writer, career coach, or other who can assist you in crafting such.

When you get in to the interview and are quizzed about your qualifications (because the interviewer is more than likely thinking: why does she want this position when it's junior to her skills?) you must then enthusiastically discuss the ROI you can provide that company. You have a chance to sell yourself as being the Best Bang for The Buck!

Hope this can help
