Career Gear - for Freshers / Career Gaps

Fresher Thought

so what happens if we're just coming out of college, looking for a job and haven't done all these wonderful things 'under each company name?' i.e. the entry-level resume, this will be the thought coming in many minds.

If you've just graduated, no employer is looking for all that stuff on your resume, because you haven't had time to accumulate it, so don't worry too much about that.
At that point what matters is:

Are you Reliable/Stable?

Are you Self Motivated/Self Starter?

Are you Responsible?

Do you have a good head on your shoulders?

Resume Needs

Mention academic achievements or awards. How you think your excellent performance would benefit the employer or enhance your ability to do the job.

List your extracurricular activities, volunteer work or community activities and correlate with your confidence for example if you were in the college team for any sport, you can mention it to show your challenge accepting ability, your die hard attitude and as a team player you learnt to adjust in the team

If you were in authority position explain your responsibilities and how well you handled them

You can spice it up with your positive personality traits or any Professional Training during the college and what were your achievements.

Resume Cautions

Employer never expects a Lengthy entry level resume, don’t try to add any information just to increase the length of the resume

Be who are you! Interviewer is far more experienced, can take out truth from your mouth only. So don’t take risk and be honest.

Career Gaps

This is important for women trying to start their new journey after a break of marriage or baby care or any person gone through some unavoidable circumstances.

Employers tend to look for gaps or lapses of time when the applicant has been unemployed, they also tend to focus on the length of service one had rendered for their previous employers

If you have any genuine reason no need to worry, may be its your marriage break or child care or any accident

You can mention the cause in your resume in a single line, employer see your knowledge and activeness towards your career, may be if they are looking for already active person your application can be rejected but here I m giving you few tips to show them your enthusiasm

Go for some crash/ Part time program related to your field during this gap it shows

that this person is proactively working to improve her skills. She/He isn't just sitting around applying for jobs and hoping for the best – She/He is studying in her own time

Do some part time job related to your profile, some home based business involvement or working with small groups may be non profit, to keep u update as per the market requirement

Have some planning & research, some event management related to your work profile

Others

If you are a member of any Multi Level Marketing Company, or Non Profit Organizations you can mention it in your resume, especially where you have to show your openness, socializing nature like sales (Insurance) or Recruiters can also tool it up as they need references to close the job openings as they can’t always rely on the portals

Even it can be in the resume with Gaps to show the activities and networking skills.

Whether times are good or bad, getting that extra edge has always been important. You may have the right experience, degrees and attributes, but when employers have stacks and stacks of resumes sitting on their desk, you need something that’s going to make you stand out, especially these days.
